About Us
Q. How did Tampa Barbarians come about?

A. Gina, Stuart and their two children relocated in the New Tampa area from Oxford, England and looked for a Rugby club suitable for their son to join locally. They were amazed to find that none existed in the area and very few statewide - except for a small number of University teams.  Their son had already been playing for 9 years so inspired by the saying "if we build it, they will come" they started our own Club and named it the Tampa Barbarians. So in November 2007 a rugby club for boys under the age of 19 in New Tampa was formed.

Q. Where does the name originate?

A. The club is based in Tampa so that part is obvious but the simple beginnings of our Club mirrored that of the "Barbarians" a historic English Rugby Club founded in 1890.  Like them we were a nomadic club with no clubhouse or field to call our own.  We adopted their Black and white hooped uniform, modeled our logo on theirs and hope to be inspired by the phenomenal success of the modern day Barbarians.
